Dear Supporter,

As we head into the 2010 Federal Election campaign, I thought I’d email you with an update on Who on Earth Cares.

Almost three years ago to the day Who on Earth Cares was created to show strong community support for action on climate change. Along with 25,000 committed Australians, you put your name on the map and showed you cared.

You’ve contacted your MP, written letters to newspaper editors, held Australia Day BBQs, walked the streets across the country, and you’ve told us about the amazing things you’re doing in your community to help tackle climate change.

And at times it hasn’t been easy. Recently, action on climate change has seemed to stall. It took us all a while to recover from the UN climate negotiations in Copenhagen last year, and then the Government dropped its Emissions Trading Scheme. Just yesterday, Leader of the Opposition, Tony Abbott said that there would be no price on pollution under a Coalition government.

After these big knocks, you might have felt like throwing in the towel.

We knew it wasn’t going to be easy. Like they say, Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Despite the disappointments, I still find mountains of examples of hope here in Australia and across the globe.

Recent research shows that 86% of Australians are concerned that pollution is making climate change worse. And, that they’d support a major political party with a detailed plan that would make clean energy cheaper, quicker though large scale development of solar, geothermal, and wind power.

But we’re not giving up. It’s time for reinvigorated efforts.

With this in mind, the Australian Conservation Foundation and the Who on Earth Cares team has made the decision to wrap up the Who on Earth Cares website. We’re throwing all of our efforts into one of the biggest opportunities we’ll have this year for strong action on climate change – the Federal Election.

Now is the perfect time to keep talking to our friends, families, and work colleagues, to our local newsagents, taxi drivers, fitness trainers, local coffee baristas and of course our local MPs about the need for greater action to reduce pollution and tackle climate change.

This email marks the beginning of a new journey. We’ll keep you up to date via our election campaign emails, If you’d prefer not to receive these emails, please let us know.

It’s vitally important that action to tackle climate change remains on the political agenda. The ACF team will be putting everything we have into calling for strong action on climate change in this election campaign - in the media, via our partners and allies, on the ground and behind the scenes with the decision makers.

We hope you’ll join us.

Thank you for your continued support.

Many thanks,
